Bulgaria General Information


Bulgaria lies in the northeastern part of the Balkan peninsula. the country is 520 km long and 330 km wide as the crow flies, has a wide outlet on the Black Sea and the river Danube and convenient crossroads location between Eurpe and Asia. The country's territory of 111,000 square kilometers makes up about 0.08 percent of the aerth's territory, one fifth of theterritory of France or a speck on the map of the globe, if you like. The population is about 8 million, 8,6% of the Balkan Peninsula, 1,3% of europe and 0,20% of the world, living in 240 towns and 5 099 villages, 68% of the population is urban. With 75 percents per square kilometer as against 38 on the earth and 66 in Europe, the population density is relatively big or at least bigger than that of neighbour Turkey and Greece. The total length of the border is 2245 kilometers of which 1181 sre land, 686 ilometers are river and 378 milometers are sea borders. Turkey, Greece, ex-Yugoslavia and Romania were, are and will be the neighbour countries. The climate is temperate contitnental and tends to to be Mediterranian in the southern and coastal areas. The mean annual temperature varies between plus 14 degrees C and 3 degrees C; the highest temperature ever has been 45,2C ad the lowest -38,3C below zero. Bulgaria is simply a continent in miniature where alpine lakes sunny beaches, curative hot spring and chilly caves, edelweis heady prcipicies and subtropical rivers lilies and lianas coexist. The average altitude of the country is 450 meters but the relief is very varied.
